practical tips
Everything you pay attention to grows
Small tips, big results
At JUB Holland, we believe that the right care for bulbs can make all the difference. Here are some practical tips to help your bulbs thrive.
Immediately After Receipt
Make sure to open the boxes of bulbs immediately upon arrival. Bulbs are best stored in a dry, well-ventilated area at a temperature of around 17°C. This way, they stay healthy until it's time to plant them.
Planting Depth
As a general rule, the planting depth for bulbs should be about three times the height of the bulb. This ensures that the bulbs have enough space to root and grow optimally.
Fertilization
You can choose environmentally friendly organic fertilizers, where the organic material is converted into humus by soil organisms. Humus improves soil structure and helps retain nutrients. Using synthetic fertilizers is also an option; a common practice is to apply 2 kg of 12-10-18 per 100 m², divided into two applications. Fertilizing after frost and before the bulbs emerge is preferred. The best time to fertilize is just before or during a rainfall, so the nutrients dissolve immediately.
Maintenance of Naturalizing Bulbs
For naturalizing bulbs in grass, you can start mowing about six to eight weeks after the blooming period on average. This period is necessary for the bulbs to store enough energy for the following year. An exception is the allium; it can be mowed right after blooming, as the leaves have already died back before flowering.
